Nearly 1,500 Martial Artists will Witness New World Champions

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Nearly 1,500 competitors and spectators from across the country
have been invited to Washington July 9 - 11 for the International Gung Fu LeiTai
Federation World International Championship Tournament at the Omni Shoreham
Hotel. The Jade Dragon Tournament seeks to reestablish the pageantry of the Imperial
Cantonese Tournament.
The concept of the Jade Dragon Tournament is to resurrect and maintain the
traditional style of Cantonese tournaments of the past. The tournament will host several
major divisions consisting of: WuShu, Tai-Chi, Northern & Southern empty hands and
weapons demonstrations, also many other specialized divisions. The emphasis of this
great tournament will be the Sanshou light-contact style of fighting and the LeiTai fullcontact
style of fighting.
An almost forgotten aspect of everyday life in China, the words Lei Tai simply mean
"grand platform," however their significance in day-to-day life was more than this. The
Lei Tai existed as the main venue for airing grievances and settling disputes among the
peoples of ancient China. Those that ascended the Lei Tai were looked upon with the
honor and esteem associated with our modern day prize fighters and champion athletes.
The modern-day LeiTai remains a grand platform 24' x 24' and raised 3 feet off of the
ground. LeiTai Fighters will ascend the platform and compete for the title of World
Champion.
The three day tournament will include competitions in all forms of Chinese Martial arts,
and culminate on the third day in an elegant Ball continuing the history of competition
and celebration of Martial Arts. In addition to competition and demonstrations, vendorswill be on hand to insure the spectacle of the grand event. Fighting competitions are open to
all ages and styles, and competitors are able to register between now and the opening of the
Tournament. All events will take place at the Omni Shoreham.
***MEDIA IS INVITED TO ATTEND ALL ASPECTS OF THE CONFERENCE. PLEASE
